Hp m477fdw firmware versions6/15/2023 I have run into some issues, but not with smearing, and running a cleaning periodically solves it. Selected that and it "updated" (downgraded) and restarted without issue. Selected USB on the screen, and one of the options is to update the printer. Put that in the root of a USB drive, then connected it to the printer (I used the front port but the back one should work too). I didn't do it exactly as it says though, what I did was I downloaded the 1921E exe from HP's site. I even took out the Y ink and reinstalled it, and still only the M was giving the error, so the bastards know what they're doing, they don't want you to realize the new firmware is the issue.Īnyway, thanks to a post at the HP forum I could downgrade the firmware to 1921E which allowed me to use the newly installed ink. They even stopped warning explicitly about third-party ink, instead only giving a generic "remove and reinstall the indicated cartridge" error, so you they don't outright tell you it's because they're blocking the ink.Īlso, the previously installed Y, C and BK from the same 3rd party ink package that I installed before the firmware update were working fine, just the newly-replaced M cartridge was giving the error. It worked for me when firmware 1937D completely effed me over. I ran into the nasty HP firmware third-party ink blocking issue, seems they're being sneakier about it, so I'm posting this so people can downgrade if they need to. EDIT: the link below is dead, here's another one
